Something strange is in the sky today. It is round, yellow and warm, if I remember correctly, it is the sun! It seemed to be a slow turn from winter to spring this year and although summer should now be creeping up on us, it doesn't feel as though we have had many warm days to enjoy yet. Still, as today would appear to be one of them, I felt it was necessary to make the very most of it and spend as much time outdoors as I can, sitting in the sun, knitting and relaxing. So, this comes to you from my garden, which I am a little behind with and for which I am, of course, going to blame the weather.
This year has confirmed something I suspected all along... I am a fair-weather friend to my garden. If it is mild, warm, sunny and at all pleasant to be outside, I shall be there. If it is over-cast, damp or chilly, I shall not. I have managed to catch-up with my weeding (in the flower beds at least), sown seeds, started off my vegetable patch and planted up a few spare plants and kept the lawn mown but things have been much more delayed this year than last. My vegetable patch, which I started to plant and sow in April, is doing quite well, but is now in desperate need of weeding, I need to sow some more salad leaves and get the courgettes in the ground. The front drive also needs weeding and I haven't planted my pots up yet - all things I had done this time last year. I suppose that is the nature of gardening, each year is different, each brings different weather and the shape and feel of the place alter with every year's growth.
Actually, I think that's one of the things I am enjoying about gardening, it all takes place at a different pace. I'm still fairly new to it, I only really started actively gardening about 3 years ago, but it seems to be a perfect hobby at this point in my life. Yes, some things in gardening happen very quickly. Seeds pop up in a matter of days, plants can seem to sport a couple of inches more growth in a day or two of sunshine and weeds grow in a blink of a eye. But, I can now appreciate that not everything can happen instantly, it's a long term project which will probably never be perfect and will always be, to some extent, a work in progress. All concepts which I'm still learning about and beginning to accept and enjoy. I'm finding that refreshing and comforting at the same time.

Ok, so it's been ages.....
Times just seems to pass by so quickly and here it is nearly six months since my last post. This time I shall learn my lesson and not promise to post more regularly, although I really do hope that I do!
The good news is, that at least I'm here with a lovely new free pattern for you all. Some pretty tie-backs that I made for our garden room
Please see my new website for the pattern: download here
It's written with English crochet directions but I included information about American terms so that you will be able to translate.
Any problems with the pattern, please do let me know...

I am pleased so say, that as promised, I am now finally posting again and it's another free pattern too!
I used this pattern to make a lovely little evening bag, but with different wool and accessories I'm sure it could be adapted to suit many occasions.
To download the pattern, click on this link to be transferred to my new website: Download Glamour Puss.
If anyone has any problems with the pattern at all, please do let me know and I'll do what I can to help.
Here are some pictures, which will hopefully whet your appetite...

I'm sorry to say I've been shockingly bad at posting lately and it's all down to the school holidays. Having a little one who has suddenly discovered the computer didn't help either! (Mummy, why are you on my computer??) Anyway, now that school and some kind of routine is now (thankfully) back in place, hopefully I can start posting again.
I have a least been working on a few projects behind the scenes and am glad to say I have a couple of new patterns that I'm almost ready to share too. I'm also currently working on a little home project which will become my first free crochet pattern when I'm all done. So, keep coming by as there will be more very soon....

What, in this world, is cuter than a knitted cupcake? Not a lot, in my opinion and so I have been on the quest to create the perfect cupcake! I have tried a few patterns, some too much work to sew together, some too straight and upright, others too small and flat... So, in an attempt to solve this invented problem of mine, I have been clicking away and coming up with my own little pattern to put forward into the world of knitted cakes. Here are the results so far...
Ummm, yum scrum!
And...
These were my first attempts!
I'm rather pleased with them as they are knitted in the round and require no seaming. (hoorah!) The only thing is there is a little fiddly bit where you have to pick up stitches to get the 'cake inside of the case' look, but as this was exactly what I wanted and couldn't find on other patterns, I felt it was well worth the extra effort. (Hopefully you with agree!)

As well as enjoying my first year with a real, living vegetable patch, I'm also loving knitting/crocheting my own fruit and veg too from '100 flowers to knit & crochet' by Lesley Stanfield (which also includes a few other things)...
So far I've done peas 'n' carrots for another veggie growing friend
Crocheted some ab-so-lutely adorable radishes
And, of course, some beautiful cherries
Very pleasing!
Also in the pipeline are some asparagus, but they are fiddly little devils, so pictures will have to follow soon...

I've finished the massive project that is the Babette Blanket. Hurray for me!
I was making this as a house warming present for my sister's first house and I'm glad to say I got it finished in good time. Too good time actually as I'm all done and she hasn't moved in yet! However, she does actually own the house already, she's just waiting for some building work to be done before she gets in there herself. Still, at least she will have a nice warm blanket ready and waiting for her.
